The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Hancock County announced on May 18 that it will host the annual 4-H June Jamboree on June 13 at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds, located at 223 Ellsworth Road. The event is open to youth ages 5-18 and their families, offering a weekend of hands-on learning and outdoor activities.

The event aims to engage young people in educational workshops covering agriculture, animal science, environmental stewardship, STEM projects, arts and crafts, and outdoor wellness activities such as archery and camping. Organizers say the jamboree is designed not only as an educational experience but also as a celebration of the broader 4-H community.

Families are encouraged to participate alongside youth attendees. Registration is required by June 6 through the event’s dedicated page. For additional information or reasonable accommodation requests, Leah McCluskey can be contacted via email or phone.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension supports community engagement through volunteer programs and educational events that connect people with shared interests, according to its official website. The organization runs several initiatives including a Diagnostic and Research Laboratory with veterinary and pest management units; delivers research-backed solutions for individuals, businesses, and communities; produces a weekly podcast called The Maine Farmcast for farmers; and extends its resources throughout Maine—all under its connection with the University of Maine.

The Cooperative Extension has provided public education programs across every county in Maine for over a century. Its efforts include running one of the state’s most successful out-of-school youth programs through 4-H.
