Rodney Skipper, a 46-year-old resident of Bowdoinham, was sentenced on April 9 in U.S. District Court in Portland for possessing firearms after a prior felony conviction.
U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. ordered Skipper to serve two years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Skipper had pleaded guilty to the charge on September 11, 2025.
According to court records, Brunswick police responded to a Walmart regarding a possible shoplifting incident and encountered Skipper outside his vehicle. Officers observed an empty pistol holster on his hip and were informed that he had been seen with a firearm before their arrival. A search of his vehicle led officers to recover three pistols: a 9mm, a .40 caliber, and a 10mm pistol. Due to a previous felony conviction for assaultive conduct, Skipper was legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case with help from the Brunswick Police Department.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
