The University of Maine softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to the Bryant Bulldogs on April 25 at Conaty Park in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The losses affect the Black Bears’ record against Bryant, as they now stand at 8-17 in the series. The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow with a first pitch set for noon.
In Game 41, Bryant scored nine runs in the first inning. Maine responded with a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Keira Inman. Later, Inman hit a three-run home run after Kaelyn Larkin doubled and Neve Adams singled, bringing Maine closer but not enough to overtake Bryant. The final score was 11-4 in favor of Bryant. Adams recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the season by going 2-for-4. Inman finished 1-for-2 with four runs batted in, including her home run and sacrifice fly. Larkin went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
Game 42 saw both teams scoreless through two innings before Maine took a brief lead when Inman’s double brought home Adams and Larkin. Bryant tied it up in the fourth and took the lead for good an inning later following a triple and wild pitch. Although Kennedy Burns scored on another wild pitch during Maine’s last at-bat, Bryant held on for a 4-3 win despite Maine loading the bases late in the game. Larkin led her team offensively by going 3-for-4 with one run scored—her eighth multi-hit game this season—while Inman contributed two more runs batted in.
Looking ahead, Maine will face Bryant once more to close out their weekend series before hosting UAlbany for their final regular season games on May 1 and May 2.
