Colby College Edges Out Conn. College with .1 Remaining on the Clock

The Colby College Women’s Basketball team matched up against Conn. College Sunday for a conference game leading to a very tight finish and a Mules win. Colby improves to 8-10 overall while evening their NESCAC record at 3-3, placing them 7th in the conference standings. 

Chelsea Ibenegbu got the Mules started contributing six of their eight first quarter points while Lydia Mordarski lit it up in the second quarter for nine points. Overall, the first half went well for the Mules taking a six point lead into halftime. In the third, the game remained close with Colby only taking a two point lead into the final quarter where for the rest of the game stayed a single position lead. Then with only .1 seconds remaining and the teams tied at 46 a piece, Caroline Smith was able to draw a foul and hit the game winning free throw resulting in a 47-46 victory for the Mules.

Carter McGloon lead the way tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Smith with 11 points and eight boards, and Mordarski with nine points and eight boards as well. A big key to the victory was Colby’s ability to stay disciplined (13 personal fouls to Conn.’s 22) and hit their free throws resulting in 16 points to Conn.’s three.
