The United States District Court for the District of Maine announced on Apr. 16 that it will host a free, week-long educational program for high school students from July 20 to July 24, 2026. The event is organized in partnership with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Supreme Court Historical Society and will take place at the Gignoux Courthouse and University of Maine Law School in Portland.

The program aims to give students firsthand experience with the legal system by focusing on a local Sixth Amendment case. Participants will have opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers while engaging directly with federal judges, historians, and local attorneys.

Open to students entering grades nine through twelve during the 2025-2026 academic year, this initiative seeks to provide insight into constitutional law and courtroom procedures. Organizers said that such outreach efforts help educate young people about their rights under the Constitution and foster an interest in public service careers.

Further details about eligibility requirements or how to apply were not included in this announcement but are available in an attached flyer.
