The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched Operation Catch of the Day across Maine to arrest criminal illegal aliens convicted of violent offenses, including Dominic Ali from Sudan.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE initiated Operation Catch of the Day on January 20, 2026, targeting individuals in Maine convicted of serious crimes such as aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child. Arrests made on the first day included Dominic Ali from Sudan, Ambessa Berhe from Ethiopia, Elmara Correia from Angola, and Dany Lopez-Cortez from Guatemala. The operation focuses on removing threats to community safety.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that agents arrested over 50 criminal illegal aliens on the first day in Maine, with approximately 1,400 targets identified statewide. The operation targets individuals convicted of violent crimes including aggravated assault and child endangerment. This initiative involves federal agents working to enhance safety in local communities.
The Department further said that more than 670,000 illegal aliens were removed in the first year, including those charged with severe offenses such as murder and terrorism. Additionally, two million self-deported during this period. Seventy percent of ICE arrests involve criminal illegal aliens convicted or charged with crimes in the U.S., aiming to protect communities nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security was established in 2002 by merging 22 federal agencies into a unified Cabinet department. Its mission is to secure the nation from threats while safeguarding American people and values through its workforce exceeding 260,000 personnel engaged in various security roles.
