The University of Maine baseball team won its sixth straight weekend series with a victory over Binghamton on Sunday, May 3.
The win marks a continued positive streak for the Black Bears as they prepare for the final stretch of their regular season. The game concluded with a score of 7-3 in favor of Maine.
Key moments included Juju Stevens putting Maine on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that brought Nic Pepe home. Hunter St. Denis hit his eighth home run of the season, and third in this series, driving in two runs during the third inning. Chris Bear contributed an RBI single later that inning, scoring Shane Andrus.
Albert De La Rosa added to Maine’s lead by driving in two more runs with a single to center field during the fourth inning. Bear followed up by bringing another runner home with a sacrifice fly before pitching changes took place. Vaun Larisa started for Maine and pitched six innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three batters. Brennan Rumpf and Sebastian Holt provided relief pitching to close out the game.
The Black Bears now hold a record of 17-27 and will return to Orono for their final seven games of the regular season. Their next matchup is set against UMass Lowell beginning Friday, May 8.
