Maine Maritime’s Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.), after being selected the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week, has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Evelyn Dagan (Castine, Maine) was named the NAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Barela led the Mariners to a 2-0 week against conference opponents with 44 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Barela started off the weekend with a game-high 22 points, shooting 67% from the hardwood and 63% from beyond the arc, in addition to five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 83-58 victory against SUNY Canton. She followed up on Saturday afternoon in a 95-79 win against NVU-Johnson with a team-high 22 points, on 57% shooting, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Dagan put up big numbers for the Mariners with 25 points, on 53% shooting, four rebounds, and one steal. In a 83-58 victory against SUNY Canton, Dagan tallied 11 points, one rebound, and one steal. She followed up in a 95-79 win against NVU-Johnson with14 points and three rebounds.
