Mary Britt was announced as Maine Maritime Academy’s Head Athletic Trainer in December 2022 by Director of Athletics, Steve Peed.

“I am incredibly excited to bring someone with Mary’s experience on board to provide leadership and guidance in the area of sports medicine,” said Peed. “She has an obvious passion for working and connecting with athletes and she is going to be a welcome addition to our team.”

Britt, an Ellsworth native, is in her 27th year as an athletic trainer, working for a variety of schools. She comes to Maine Maritime from Oceanside High School, where she served as the Head Athletic Trainer since 2017, working with sports such as football, soccer, basketball and track. Prior to Oceanside High School, Britt worked as a per diem Athletic Trainer for 13 years with organizations such as Bates College, the University of Southern Maine, and the Maine Principal’s Association.

“It’s not every day that an opportunity like this comes along to join the athletic staff of a respected college,” said Britt.  “Being at Maine Maritime also gives me the opportunity to move closer to my family, which is important. I’m extremely excited to join the Maine Maritime family and work with a successful athletic program.”

Britt will take over the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Training Room at Maine Maritime, alongside Northern Light Health Certified Athletic Trainer, Jess Aube. Mariners Athletics currently serves 13 varsity sports and one coed club sport.

Britt’s Athletic Training career began at Mount Desert Island High School as an Athletic Trainer in 1996. From there, she moved to Lewiston High School where she served as the Athletic Trainer for nine years before starting in per diem work.

Britt graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology / Athletic Training in 1996. She then earned her master’s degree in Healthcare Management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2014. She is a licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Maine and a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Britt joined the Mariners’ staff on Monday, December 12.
