The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Maine announced on Apr. 8 that a recording of its recent Virtual Small Business Day is now available for members who were unable to attend the event last month.

The program offered small business owners across Maine the chance to hear directly from policy and advocacy experts, as well as a key lawmaker from the state’s Taxation Committee. This update matters to small business owners because it provides timely information on legislation and regulatory policies that may affect their businesses and employees.

Maine State Director David Clough led the program, which included updates on top small business issues currently under consideration in Augusta. Senator Bruce Bickford, the ranking Republican senator on the Taxation Committee, gave a comprehensive presentation about tax-related matters impacting local businesses. Louis Bertolotti, NFIB Principal of Federal Government Relations, provided an update on federal issues relevant to Maine’s business community. The event also featured discussions about opportunities for member activism in Washington, D.C., and highlighted success stories from within NFIB’s membership.

Attendees had access to various segments such as State Update, Grassroots Advocacy, Federal Update, Senator Bruce Bickford’s remarks, Member Spotlight featuring Cathy DeMerchant, and introductions to key members of NFIB’s Maine team. Members interested in further engagement or advocacy efforts are encouraged to contact Julianna Rauf, NFIB Grassroots Manager.

Additional resources shared during the event include opportunities for one-on-one meetings with grassroots managers, updating member profiles regarding policy interests with NFIB, and listening to “The Small Business Rundown” podcast for insights into national and state-level developments affecting small businesses. The organization also celebrated a legislative victory achieved in 2025: making permanent the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction after sustained advocacy by its members.

Contact information was provided for those seeking more details or wishing to become more involved with ongoing advocacy initiatives.
