Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has expressed disagreement with President Joe Biden's stimulus plan which will see Americans getting $1,400 checks.
Collins told Politico there was a need for direct payment to those with lower incomes.
“I was the first to raise that issue, but there seemed to be a lot of agreement … that those payments need to be more targeted," she said. "I would like to say that it was not clear to me how the administration came up with its $1.9 trillion figure for the package."
A group of 16 senators from both parties on Sunday had a 75-minute call with White House officials. During the conference, Collins said she questioned why families earning $300,000 were getting the same checks as lower-income ones. Senators are calling for the stimulus package to be distributed based on need.
