University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Fly Past Mariners to Earn Home Win

The Owls sore past the Mariners in their first game of the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. This is the Owls first East NAC win of the year, bring them to 1-1, also 2-4 including West NAC teams. Advancing to 4-10 on the year, as the Mariners fall to 7-9.

It was a tail of two halves as the Owls found themselves down by ten points going into the half as the Mariners were able to hold them to just 31% shooting from the field and 0-8 from the 3 in the first half. All while the Mariners shot 58% from the field and 45% from the 3 in the first 20 minutes of the game. In the second half, the Owls bounced back, going on a 14-2 run in a four minute span early in the second half to bring them within one, with 12 minutes to go in the game. UMPI continued to advance their lead with solid defense and ball movement on offense to get easy buckets. UMPI would finish the second half, shooting 62% from the field and 50% from the 3.

Griffin Guerrette led all scorers with 22 points and earning seven assists on the game, despite a slow start to the game. Dany Harris was solid off the bench for the Owls, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. KJ Minter also finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds while going 5-9 from the field.
