University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Fly Past Moose in U-Maine System Match Up

UMPI Women’s Basketball Advance to 3-2 going into the short Thanksgiving break after a 71-63 win over the University of Maine at Augusta Moose.

The Owls found themselves in a tight game early, up by one point at the end of the first quarter, led by Aliea Milano’s eight point start. In the second half the Owls stepped up their defense, allowing only 11 points and holding the Moose to just 23.5% shooting. Led by Kourtney West’s seven point spark off the bench to give the Owls a 35-26 point lead going into the half. A high scoring third for UMPI, scoring 24 points and increasing their lead by holding the Moose to 23.5% shooting yet again in the third. The Moose would battle back in the fourth to bring the game closer, although the Owls closed it out with some late game along with some clutch shots to put the game away.

Milano led the Owls in scoring with a team high 19 points including four made threes while completing the double-double and grabbing ten rebounds. Emily Wheaton finished the game with 12 points and eight assists. Alexis Ireland added to the game with a near double-double, finishing with ten and nine. West finished with a career high nine points on 3-4 shooting.
