The UMPI Women's Basketball Team is battling for a North Atlantic Conference Playoff spot and took a major step in that direction with a 73 to 55 win at Thomas College Saturday afternoon.

The Owls were outplayed by the Terriers for much of the 1st half but went into intermission trailing by just one point 26 to 25 when Aleia Milano hit a 3 pointer on an assist from Emily Wheaton in the final minute. UMPI struggled shooting early on scoring only 8 points in the 1st 10 minutes of play before picking up the pace in the 2nd Quarter shooting 43.8% from the field in that frame.

The 3rd Quarter saw both teams make several runs. A jumper on the baseline from Chantel Williams on a feed from Milano, followed by a good interior move and bucket from Jelecia Ma'Gee-Hodges put the Owls up quickly 29 to 26 before a Jocelyn Jordan layup and a Keira Gilman 3 pointer put the Terriers back in front. Williams and Ma'Gee-Hodges combined for the next 9 points of the quarter to give UMPI a 7 point lead. An Alexis Ireland score inside sent UMPI into the 4th quarter with a 48 to 44 advantage.

A Ma'Gee-Hodges inside score followed by another low-post score from Kourtney West on an assist from Lauren Magno, 2 free throws from Ireland and a driving layup off the glass for Wheaton and UMPI grew their lead to 59 to 44 with 7:43 left in the game. Thomas would get it back down to a single-digit game before the Owls would ice the game.

Ireland paced the Owls with 18 points and 9 rebounds, Ma'gee-Hodges scored 16 points and had 3 assists while Williams netted 14 points. Despite sitting with foul trouble, Emily Wheaton added 6 points and 5 assists and Milano scored 10 points along with 3 assists. Hannah Coolen led Thomas with a game-high 20 points.
