The Husson University softball team put together a hitting clinic on the road Saturday to sweep the University of New England in doubleheader action by finals of 3-1 and 11-2.

In the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader Husson (8-10) got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning scoring its first run of the day on an RBI double by junior Kenzie Dore, who scored on sophomore Tori Exel's RBI single to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.

UNE (2-10) got a run back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot to cut into the Eagles lead at 2-1, however, sophomore Tatyanna Biamby who entered in the seventh inning came up clutch for the green and gold with an RBI double to give the Eagles a 3-1 edge.

That would be all the run support senior McKenna Smith would need in the circle as she scattered just three hits on the day, while striking out an impressive 16 Nor'Easter batters.

Husson finished with 10 hits, while sophomore Kiara McLeod recorded a 3-3 game and both Exel and junior Olivia McCarty tallied two hits apiece.

Freshman Emily Rerick got the start for the Eagles in game two allowing one run in the bottom of the first inning to give UNE and early 1-0 advantage, but that lead was short lived as the Eagles took a 2-1 lead following the top of the second. Scoring their first run on an RBI bunt from senior Jill Bisson and their second tally on an RBI groundout from Biamby.

The Nor'Easter's managed to tie the game 2-2 in the third with their second run, however, Husson scored three runs in the fourth to open up a 5-2 lead. Taking a 3-2 advantage on an RBI single by McCarty before Dore doubled to center field to score two runs.

Husson added another run in the fifth inning before erupting for five runs in the sixth inning to push its lead to 11-2.

McLeod got in on the RBI action with a single through the left side for the first of the five runs, while Biamby recorded her third and fourth RBI's of the day on another single through the left side, while Husson benefited from a UNE error that also plated two runs.

Rerick got the win for the Eagles pitching four solid innings allowing five hits and one earned run, while Smith who entered in relief in the fifth inning pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.

McCarty, Dore, McLeod, sophomore Bulla McCabe and Bisson all recorded two hits each in game giving Husson 13 hits for the contest. The Eagles finished the afternoon with 14 runs on 23 hits allowing just three UNE scores.

The Eagles will look to keep their momentum on Apr. 2 when they travel to Waterville, Maine for a noon doubleheader against Colby College.
