University of Maine at Farmington Beavers Open Outdoor Track and Field Season at Wesleyan

The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams opened up their outdoor season today at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic on the campus of Wesleyan University. Both teams had a very strong beginning to the season. On the men's side seven Beavers placed inside the top-10 which is the most in program history. On the women's side 10 athletes finished inside the top-10 for the most in school history. Between both teams, 15 personal bests were recorded.

Women's Highlights

Charlotte Wentworth (Sidney, Maine) finished 10th overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.26 seconds. The 200 meter dash was highly competitive with 35 total runners competing. 

Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) picked up the outdoor season right where she left off in the indoor season. Johnson placed 6th overall in the 100 meter hurdles and set the school record with the time of 17.26 seconds. Johnson also ran the 1st leg of the 4x100 meter relay that finished 5th overall with a time of 54.30 seconds. That time marks 3rd overall in school history.

Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) placed 7th overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.36. Burr also ran the 3rd leg of the 4x100 meter relay.

Abby Minot (Bath, Maine) had a strong day for the Beavers. She placed 5th overall in the triple jump and set a program record in the process with a jump of 10.38 meters. Minot also ran the final leg in the 4x100 meter relay.

Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) picked up a win in the hammer throw with a throw that measured in at 38.37 meters. 

Men's Highlights

Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) recorded a PR and a 4th overall finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds. Reeve's time also marks 2nd overall in program history. 

Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) continued his strong season with a 4th place finish in the 1,500 meters. Dufort finished with a time of 4:14.48.

Luke Bliss (Underhill, Vermont) grabbed a 5th place finish in the 5,000 meter with a strong time of 16:43.49.

Yussuf Adow (Auburn, Maine) and Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine) each finished in the top-10 in the 400 meter hurdles. Adow finished 8th overall with a time of 1:02.53. Gingras was 10th place with a time of 1:05.42.

Adow grabbed another top-10 finish in the high jump, clearing the 1.75 meter bar.

Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) had a jump that was marked at 6.30 meters in the long jump to finish 6th place overall. 

Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) and Connor Demmons (Farmingdale, Maine) finished 7th and 8th place respectively in the shot put. Sheran's throw was measured at 11.41 meters while Demmons throw came in at 11.23 meters. Sheran added a 10th place finish with a 33.57 meter throw in discus.

Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) already qualified for the New England Regional Championship in the hammer throw as he placed 2nd overall with a throw of 45.94 meters.
