Women more prevalent than men in Maine in 2021

Of the 1,357,046 people living in Maine in 2021, 50.8% (688,738) were women and 49.2% (668,308) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by Pine State News.

Data showed the average age for women in Maine in 2021 was 46 years, higher than the national average of 40 for women. Meanwhile, Maine's male population stands at an average age of 44 years, placing them higher than the US average of 38.

According to census data, women aged 18 and over outnumbered men in the same age group by 5,426, totaling 413,533 individuals. Meanwhile, in the 65 and over group, there were 129,191 men and 151,630 women.
