The Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) is organizing webinars throughout the month of October to provide insights on the new Paid Family & Medical Leave law. These online sessions aim to inform both employers and employees about the implications and usage of the law.
There are two sessions specifically designed for employers and two focusing on employee-related questions. The webinars dedicated to employers will take a detailed look at "an overview of the law’s provisions, information on premium amounts, timing of benefits, wage reporting, and how to use the new online portal launching this winter for remitting payments," according to MDOL's press release. Each of these sessions will be followed by a Q&A segment to address any questions from participants.
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is collaborating with MDOL on an employer-focused webinar scheduled for October 23rd, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and interested parties can register at the provided Zoom link. Additionally, MDOL is joining forces with the Maine State Chamber of Commerce for another employer-centric session on October 16th.
For employees, the webinars on October 15th and 22nd will cover "eligibility requirements, job protections, premium amounts and timing, and the timing and portability of benefits," as stated by MDOL. These discussions will also end with a Q&A.
More information on dates, times, and how to register is available at www.maine.gov/labor/news_events/article.shtml?id=13070004. MDOL also maintains a website dedicated to the new law at www.maine.gov/paidleave/.
