University of Maine at Farmington Willihan Named Director of Snowsports

University of Maine Farmington Director of Athletics Jamie Beaudoin is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrew Willihan as the Director of Snowsports. Willihan previously served as the interim Director of Snowsports for the 2021-22 academic year.

Willihan was hired in 2016 as the Men's and Women's Alpine Coach and Outdoor Recreation Coordinator through Mainely Outdoors. He then added Assistant Director of Snowsports to his title in 2017. He held the Assistant Director title until 2021 when he was named the interim Director of Snowsports replacing Scott Hoisington.

As the Head Alpine Coach, Willihan has built one of the most prestigious alpine programs in the region. For his efforts he was tabbed as the 2022 United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Coach of the year award. He also received the Easter Region Coach of the year in 2018.

Willihan is a 2006 graduate of Farmington with a bachelor's degree in education with a concentration in psychology. During his undergraduate years he was a member of a group that helped to reestablish the ski program at Farmington in 03'-04'.

Prior to being named the Head Alpine Coach he held numerous positions at Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA), including head U14/U16 alpine coach, U16 women's head coach, as well as being the head of CVA. During his tenure at CVA he helped ten athletes qualify for U14 Canadian-American games.

"We are fortunate to have Andrew continue in his role as the Director of Snowsports.  He continues to provide great leadership for the growth of our snow sports program. His role in our department will enhance our student-athlete experience, our competitiveness, and our ability to recruit quality student-athletes to attend and thrive at UMF" Beaudoin adds.

Willihan is excited to build and continue to grow on the rich history of UMF skiing as well as expanding the total snow sports program. "The program is in a great spot. Freestyle had a banner year last year, Alpine was hugely successful, and I am really excited about the future of the Nordic program" Willihan states.

Looking to the future of the program, Willihan is eager to improve the overall student-athlete experience through individual training and student-athlete competition schedules.
