The Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced plans to realign and reconstruct the intersection of Routes 4/202 (Waterboro Road) and Gore Road in Alfred. The project area starts at Hazel Dell Apartments and extends approximately 1,500 feet north, ending near the American Legion and Fraternal Lodge buildings.

The project aims to improve safety through intersection realignment, reconstruction, and drainage enhancements. It will include the addition of a center-turning lane with raised concrete islands, along with another concrete island in front of Giles Farm Country Store. Additionally, 200 feet of newly paved roadway will be added to the reconfigured portion of Gore Road.

Construction activities are slated to begin later this month. Throughout the construction period, traffic will be restricted to a single lane, alternating flow through the project area. Shaw Brothers from Gorham has been contracted for the project with a budget of $1.5 million. The work is expected to be completed by July this year.

Officials indicate that these changes will significantly improve the safety of the intersection and the connecting roadways.
