As traffic increases with the onset of the construction season, a coalition of road safety advocates is set to address the crucial issue of work zone safety. In response to the rise in seasonal traffic and the commencement of road construction projects in Maine, a group of public and private road workers is gathering to emphasize the need for drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, particularly in work zones.
The Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Turnpike Authority, Maine State Police, Associated General Contractors of Maine, and AAA Northern New England are organizing a press conference tomorrow to stress the importance of safe driving in these areas.
"We want to remind drivers to stay alert and drive carefully - especially in work zones," said a member of the organizing bodies. The event at the Maine Turnpike Authority's West Gardiner Maintenance Facility is scheduled to provide interviews, information, and visuals focused on work zone safety.
This initiative features speakers including Rebecca Grover from the Maine Turnpike Authority, Shawn Smith from the Maine Department of Transportation, Sgt. Seth Allen from the Maine State Police, Kelly Flagg from the Associated General Contractors of Maine, and Tom Baran from AAA Northern New England. It is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m., at the Maine Turnpike Authority location in West Gardiner.
Among the key points is the call for increased road awareness amid the higher risks associated with construction zones. For further inquiries, Rebecca Grover of the Maine Turnpike Authority can be contacted at 207-838-6795 or via email at rgrover@maineturnpike.com.
