4.2% of citizens in Maine unemployed in 2021

Maine's unemployment rate hit 4.2% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 30,163 people out of the 1,357,046 living in Maine at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in Maine has increased compared to the 4% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in Maine was less than the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 683,058 people who had a job during that time, 1,871 were employed in the Armed Forces and 681,187 belonged to the civilian labor force.
