The Maine Department of Transportation has initiated the replacement of Babson Bridge, situated over Kitteredge Brook in Mount Desert. This bridge facilitates the movement of Route 3 and Route 198 and is positioned 0.09 miles east of Route 102.
Site clearance activities started on March 17th, with the aim of enabling the construction of a temporary detour for traffic during the project's duration. Temporary traffic adjustments on Route 3 might result in reductions to a single lane, with alternating one-way traffic supervised by flaggers from 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM while necessary clearing and detour construction are underway.
The construction of the new bridge is scheduled to commence on August 5th and aims for completion by the summer of 2027. The workweek is planned from Monday to Friday, between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and weekend work is not anticipated. During the construction phase, an 11-foot lane width restriction will be enforced.
T-Buck Construction from Turner has been contracted for this project, with the work valued at approximately $5.2 million.
