On November 15, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) held a virtual event to discuss Maine's new Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) law. The session featured State Director David Clough, who provided an overview of the significant changes and additions to the existing law. He also discussed the implementation process and what small business owners should anticipate in the future.

The PFML law is now in effect in Maine, initiating a complex administrative implementation process. This law impacts every employer and employee, regardless of size or status. For the first time, self-employed individuals will have access to this workplace benefit. Although benefits are not set to begin until 2026, understanding what to expect and when is crucial. Key decisions regarding the law will be made over the next 14 months.

The NFIB's virtual event aimed to equip businesses with necessary information about upcoming changes and requirements.

For those interested in viewing the webinar, a recording is available online. Any questions can be directed to NFIB Grassroots Manager Julianna Rauf.
