The Maine Department of Transportation has announced planned overnight closures of I-295 next month. These closures will affect both the northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 10 in Falmouth and Exit 15 in Yarmouth. The temporary shutdowns are necessary to facilitate the safe installation of structural steel for the Johnson Road Bridge project located at Mile Marker 12 in Falmouth.
According to the schedule, the southbound side will be closed on Wednesday, February 12th, and Thursday, February 13th. The following week, attention will turn to the northbound lanes with closures set for Tuesday, February 18th, and Wednesday, February 19th. All closures will take place from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., during which time the I-295 northbound on-ramp from the Falmouth Spur will also be inaccessible.
To accommodate traffic during these periods, a detour route has been established utilizing Route 1 and Bucknam Road for travel between Exits 10 and 15.
The completion timeline for this work is subject to weather conditions. The project contractor is Wyman & Simpson, Inc., based in Richmond, with a construction contract valued at approximately $7.8 million.
