The Maine Department of Transportation is set to implement lane restrictions and a ramp closure in Portland as part of an ongoing infrastructure project. The changes will affect the ramp from Veterans Memorial Bridge to southbound I-295, which will be limited to a single lane with a 12-foot width restriction. Additionally, the ramp leading to southbound US Route 1 from Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed. A detour via Exit 3 has been planned for motorists.
These measures are scheduled to commence on Monday, March 17 at 6:00 a.m., and are expected to remain in place until the fall of 2026. The purpose of these closures is to facilitate bridge rehabilitation work and the installation of new lighting systems.
The project is being carried out by Wyman & Simpson, based in Richmond, under a contract valued at approximately $12.4 million.
