Maine DOT plans ADA-compliant upgrades in Auburn, Lewiston, and Sanford

The Maine Department of Transportation is undertaking a project to upgrade crosswalk landings, sidewalk ramps, and curbs in the cities of Auburn, Lewiston, and Sanford. The improvements aim to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In Auburn, the upgrades will take place at Mt. Auburn Ave. at Center Street. In Lewiston, work will be conducted at several locations: Veterans Memorial Bridge at Main St., Russell at College St., Russell at Bardwell St., North Bardwell at Central Ave., Russell at Lafayette St., and Russell from East Ave to Sabattus St. In Sanford, improvements are scheduled for Haig St. (Rt. 202) extending from East Ave. to Sabattus Street.

The construction is set to commence on Tuesday, April 15th, with an expected completion date in June this year. Coastal Road Repair of Westbrook has been contracted for the project with a budget of approximately $597,721.00.

During this period, residents can expect some sidewalk and lane closures as work progresses.
